Greetings
Thank you so much for stopping by.
This series is about Jesus Christ – to know Him more deeply and directly from His Word.
The foundation from which we begin to speak about Jesus in the Old Testament is the following:
• The Bible comes from God (not from people).
• The Bible must be tested and explained by the Bible itself – Scripture interprets Scripture.
• God wants us to know, study, meditate on, and apply the Bible.
1 Peter 3:15
“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defence to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear.”
This series is precisely about knowing more and understanding what is written in the Old Testament about Jesus.
In the Old Testament, the coming of the Messiah is repeatedly prophesied.
Last time, we spoke about the beginning of the prophecies in Genesis.
Today, I share my findings on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th prophecies in the Old Testament about Jesus:
3. Jacob’s Prophecy about Judah
On his deathbed, Jacob foretold that kingship would remain with Judah until the true Ruler appeared. He said that the nations would obey Him.
Genesis 49:10
“The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh comes; and to Him shall be the obedience of the people.”
4. Balaam’s Prophecy about the Star and the Sceptre
Although Balaam was a pagan diviner, God used him to speak the truth. He was hired to curse Israel, but God turned his words into blessings.
One of his most important utterances is his fourth prophecy: a Star and a Sceptre would rise from Israel – a royal Messianic sign.
Numbers 24:17
“I see Him, but not now; I behold Him, but not near; a Star shall come out of Jacob; a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel.”
(Also read the story of Balaam and his donkey in Numbers 22. After he struck the donkey three times, the Lord opened his eyes and he could see the Angel blocking the road.)
5. Moses’ Prophecy about the Great Prophet
Moses himself gave a promise from the Lord: He would raise up a Prophet like Moses, and the people must listen to Him. This prophecy points forward to the final Mediator – Jesus Christ.
Deuteronomy 18:15
“The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brethren. Him you shall hear.”
Conclusion
This brings us to the end of today’s message. I trust that it has inspired you to read the Bible with greater depth and to apply it in your own life.
We are truly blessed that we may read the Bible – and I invite you to join me in prayer for those in countries where the Bible is not allowed.
I thank God together with each of you for the privilege of having a Bible – and being able to use it openly, even on your cellphone or other technology.
Let us rejoice together and be excited to spend more time in God’s presence and in His Word.
I look forward to speaking with you again next week. But before I say goodbye:
